Here are fifteen cute date ideas that don't require a bulging bank balance.

So you've got that special someone you want to impress but little to no money to do it... we've got you. Here are cute romantic date ideas that are totally cheap and don't need a big budget.

Bake together

Take inspiration from The Great British Bake Off: Hit the kitchen with your crush and create something special, whether it be cakes, cookies or biscuits.

A romantic walk

Find a nice place to walk in the local area, such as a moonlit stroll along the beach or somewhere up high where you can stargaze above the street lights.

Last minute tickets

Websites like London Theatre Direct offer cut price deals and discount last minute tickets on West End musicals, plays, shows, opera, ballet and more attractions. You can purchase tickets that could normally cost £100+ for as little as £10. You can also try West End ticket lotteries for cheap tickets.

Volunteer together

A completely free and totally rewarding way to spend time with your boyfriend or girlfriend: Find a local cause that you can work together for to make the world better.

Treasure hunt

With a bit of planning you can come up with a truly memorable and completely original date on the cheap with a home made treasure or scavenger hunt. Write some clues and lead your other half to special places that mean something to you both, end with a surprise!

Big screen movies

Some cities have free big screen, drive-in style movies which can make for a nice romantic setting for no cost all.

Write a poem or love letter

Put your feelings into words, and make them rhyme for extra romance points! It's totally free and uber cute.

Romantic meal

A simple classic: Brush up on your culinary skills and cook up their favourite meal and host it in a romantic setting. Alternatively, if the weather agrees, handmade a personal and perfect picnic for you both to enjoy outside.

Fruit picking

Depending on the season, and the weather, head out into the fields and pick your own fruit. Many farms offer opportunities to pick your own strawberries, raspberries and other fruit fresher than anything you'll find the supermarket.

Pumpkin picking and carving

This one really only works in October but is a great fun date idea. Head out to a local farm (do a Google!) to pick a pumpkin or two to carve up.

(Indoor) Rock climbing

If you're looking for something a bit more exciting, then why not have a go at indoor rock climbing? The UK has a surprising amount of climbing walls available, with costs starting from as little as £5 a session. Check out the UK Climbing website to find your nearest.

Stand up comedy

In many cities and towns you can find cheap or even free comedy nights and sometimes you can enjoy some big names trying out new material, such as Dara O'Briain, Tim Vine, Russell Howard and Holly Walsh. Angel Comedy in London hosts regular free evenings and shows for as little as £5 a ticket.

Head to the farm

Spend a Saturday surrounded by adorable animals: A visit to the zoo or even a local farm can be fun - assuming the weather allows for it! Many attractions, such as Marwell Zoo or Finkley Down Farm offer student discounts with a valid student ID. Some farms may allow for completely free admission.

Workout

A date in a sweaty gym isn't perhaps the best idea but rather head out for an evening run, especially if you're lucky enough to be based near a beach or similar nice place.

Play a board game

Play (or even make your own) board game together. Choose wisely, you don't still want to be playing monopoly four hours later, let alone it all end in a competitive argument!

Visit a market or car boot sale

Enjoy a lazy Sunday morning by browsing the local car boot sale for bargains and general bric-a-brack, you'll never know what you might discover.

Free tourist attractions

Find out about local free or cheap tourist attractions such as museums or galleries, get cultured!

Give massages

Give each other massages. Don't know know how? Look it up online and teach yourselves!
